It is not possible to always win arguments as has been demonstrated many times in the EU and certainly the leaders of other EU states have many times said unfriendly things about us. Isolation is not the alternative to the EU. The UK is a member of the UN Security Council, has a deep and abiding friendship with the USA and is a member, and leader of the Commonwealth. Also we trade with the EU which trade is in no way dependent on UK membership of the EU. (cf Norway, Switzerland, Greenland, Iceland etc)
